May 23 History Program: "The Ho-Chunk Struggle Against Removal from Wisconsin"

Monroe County Local History Room & Museum News

The Monroe County Local History Room & Museum presents: "The Ho-Chunk Struggle Against Removal from Wisconsin" by UW-Madison history professor and author Stephen Kantrowitz. The program will occur on Thursday, May 23, at 7 pm at the Sparta United Methodist Church (210 N. Court St.).

During the 1820s and 1830s, the United States seized the Ho-Chunk people’s entire ancestral homeland and tried repeatedly to force them into exile west of the Mississippi River. Despite this, the Ho-Chunk people persisted, endured, and re-established a permanent place for themselves in Wisconsin. Come learn about who and what shaped this history and how has it shaped our world today.

Please note that to provide more seating space, this program will not be held at the Local History Room but nearby at the Sparta United Methodist Church. Parking available in Museum/Monroe County Parking Lot off Central Ave. Please use the N K St. entrance of the church. Free admission but a $1 donation to offset programming costs is always appreciated. For more information visit www.facebook.com/mclhr or call 608-269-8680.
