These interactive programs can be conducted on site at the Monroe County Local History Room & Museum (MCLHR) in Sparta or can be brought to your classroom (anywhere in Monroe County). Brackett One-Room School and Wegner Grotto County Park programs are held at their respective sites, weather-permitting.
A minimum of 15 students within five grade levels is required to participate in LHR programming. Programming is designed to serve an average classroom size of 15-28 students. If your group is larger than 28 then we will have to split the group. Other sizes can be accommodated for certain programs.
The Deke Slayton Memorial Space and Bicycle Museum shares a building with the Local History Room and also provides educational programming (for a fee). Groups larger than 28 students are typically split and visit both museums, one group at a time.
All programs correlate to Wisconsin Standards for Social Studies and can be adapted to any age group (4K to 12).
The Local History Room provides most, if not all of the materials used in the programs, and provides all of its own equipment.
There is a $1 per person fee for Local History Room programming both at the museum and in Monroe County classrooms, and a minimum $2 per person fee for in classroom programming for out of county schools.
During each program, students will listen to a presenter, look at images, handle objects, and participate in hands-on activities. Always inform us of any special-needs students so that we may make any necessary adaptations.
