If you're finding yourself stuck at home these days and looking for something productive to do (and who isn't?), we would encourage you to get online and research your family history. Here are two tips for getting the most out of your online genealogy time:
1) visit www.MonroeCountyHistory.org: The Monroe County Local History Room may be closed to the public at this time, be we are still here to connect you to your Monroe County roots! Search over a half-million names in our historic records and photographs on our website or email us your research request if you've used our search engine already. We're still here to help you.
2) take advantage of the free trial memberships the big genealogy websites offer and really dig into your genealogy for a couple of weeks. Major genealogy websites, such as Ancestry.com and MyHeritage.com, offer a free trial period. Why not spend some time on them now and make the most of the free trial? There is also the excellent FamilySearch.org site which is free to use with registration.
Being shut-in is hard. We hope researching your family history will make the time more enjoyable and productive. Remember the Monroe County Local History Room is still here to help you. Our email address is: mclhr@centurytel.net
