Have you ever wanted to research your family history but not sure where to start?
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Monroe County Local History Room & Museum (MCLHR). For half a century, MCLHR has been connecting people to history in a meaningful way. Sometimes that history is one’s own family history. On Saturday, May 2nd, the History Room will be hosting a free "Intro to Genealogy" class. The program will begin at 10:00 am and last approximately an hour. It will be presented by MCLHR Museum Services Associate (and professional genealogist) Hannah Scholze who will share some tips and tricks for how to get started researching your family tree, where to find helpful records and how best to search them, and suggestions for organizing genealogical research. Hannah will also be available after the program to assist anyone who would like additional hands-on help with research using the History Room’s library.
Admission is free, with a suggested $1 donation to support future programming. No pre-registration is necessary but space is limited. The Monroe County Local History Room & Museum is located at 200 W. Main St., Sparta. For more information, please call 608-269-8680.
