It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – of the 1980s – at the Monroe County Local History Room & Museum in Sparta. Starting Monday, November 25th, visitors can time travel to the not-so-distant past by viewing the History Room’s special Christmas display, "Back to the 1980s Christmas.” This retro holiday display recreates what Christmas morning might have looked like forty years ago – from the colorful and electronic toys under the tree to the sculptured carpeting on the floor. Bask in the nostalgia as you view a room full of some of the most popular playthings of the 1980s. Time travel through television as you watch forty-year-old commercials on a working console TV. Get goosepimply as you page through Christmas catalogs from the '80s. Bring the whole family and see what Christmas morning was like not so long ago in the 1980s.
The museum display, “Back to the 1980s Christmas,” runs from November 25th through January 11th. The public is invited to a special open house on Monday, November 25th from 6:30-8pm. Enjoy a sneak preview of the display as well as sweet holiday treats. The Monroe County Local History Room is located at 200 West Main Street, Sparta. Regular museum hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 9-4.
